UPDATES FOR THE SUMMER

Hello Hello. We've been remiss in not blogging sooner. My how time has flown! Harvest Moon started the year with an exciting Exhibition in the gallery titled Lamartine "Four Artists Three Generations."

SCC member Richard Lamartine was joined by two other generations of the Lamartine family in an exhibition at the Harvest Moon Gallery in Meacham, Saskatchewan. Richard’s work was exhibited along with that of his son (Damian), mother (Jean) and father (Gert).

The Lamartine’s are a remarkable artistic family. Gert Lamartine was born in Germany in 1898. After surviving 4 years at the Western Front in World War I, he studied at the University of Heidelburg and the Art School at Karlsruhe, and immigrated to Canada in 1925. He established a design studio and was responsible for the decoration of several CP hotels including the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City, the Chateau Lake Louise and the Chateau Laurier in Montreal. Gert continued to paint, and his work was exhibited in galleries such as the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Dominion Galleries and the Toit de Chaume Gallery in Piedmont. He died in Germany in 1966.

Jean Lamartine was born in Montreal in 1906 and studied art at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Montreal and textile design at the Pratt Institute in New York. In addition to painting, she established the interior design firm Learpoint Ltd. Her paintings were exhibited and sold through Art Lenders. Jean died in 1994.

Richard Lamartine was born in Montreal in 1948 and studied art at Sir George Williams University. While living in Canmore, Alberta he became well known as a painter and photographer. In 1999, he also began working in ceramics, specializing in raku fired ceramic animal masks. In 2002, 3 of his masks were selected to decorate the conference room at the G8 summit in Kananaskis Village, Alberta. Richard moved to Meacham in 2007.

Damian Lamartine was born in Calgary in 1978. He is a graduate of the Alberta College of Art and Design, and works as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator.
