Anna Hergert's  Exhibition Statement:

My work is informed primarily by the natural world. I strive to contrast and compare weather phenomena, light and shadow, reflection and their affects on my immediate surroundings, primarily the lake my studio overlooks year-round.

When Fall 2011 presented unusual weather patterns the timing was perfect to capture once in a lifetime imagery with the camera. Over just three days the temperature fluctuations, precipitation and pre-existing conditions around the lake shore opened a small window of opportunity to gather visual information. Harnessed with my camera I carefully navigated the thin ice reaping the rewards in the form of frozen scenery I had never witnessed before. I weighed my options and decided against digital manipulation of the images I had captured. Any alteration would have truly spoiled nature’s intricate sculptures.

Polar Embrace is my newest body of work where I have, for the first time, combined my passion for photography with my textile art skills.

Meg Nicks

The intricate details of nature never cease to captivate me.
Natureʼs flow and rhythms,
the endless interconnectivilty of natureʼs design and patterns,
are purest inspiration.Wood grain flows like water, and water
captures the mountains in reverse, pristine like a
mirror or turbulent and almost chaotic.
The mountain environment looks solid, but is
infinitely changeable.

As much as I like to explore nature, I like to explore materials.
The mountains with theirendless diversity are echoed by the
incredible variety of materials available to us today.
Never before in the history of art, have so many art materials
been so available at so affordable a cost. There is a painting
by Michelangelo that was never finished because the patron
never supplied the blue paint needed, and it was too
expensive for the artist to buy himself. We have so many
choices now that it can be hard to choose! I am excited by
the many possibilities inherent in new media and materials.
